I was trained in philosophy, earning my Ph.D. in 1998 from Yale University. I lectured at Yale for two years before joing the faculty at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York. My specialization was in existential philosophy and phenomenology. I am currently a lecturer at Eastern Michigan University and teach theology at Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit. I serve as director of a ministry to the homeless in Ann Arbor. I am also the founder of an online community for Christian scrapbooking called Praisebooking.com, which hopes to encourage others to preserve stories about who they are and what they believe, beyond merely what they do and where they go.
